ABOUT ALEX

Hi there, I’m Alex Joy! My mission has always been to help regular people gain confidence in the kitchen to become better, smarter home cooks. I’m a cookbook author, food journalist, culinary instructor, and event planner with over 20 years of experience. I’m so happy you’ve stumbled across my little corner of the world, and I hope you find something delicious that brings you a bit of joy while you’re here. I have a feeling you will!

In 2016, I started A Joy in the Kitchen as a creative outlet to share my recipes with people interested in simple, seasonal home cooking. At that time, I was working as a program director at Whole Foods Market, where I created and launched the Culinary Center inside the region’s flagship store in Dedham, Massachusetts. I’ve developed hundreds of recipes, led thousands of cooking classes, and planned countless public and private events. My recipes and stories have been published in Fine Cooking, Yankee Magazine, and Edible Rhody, and I’ve been featured on Care.com and WCVB Channel 5 Boston. My cookbooks, Cooking with the Seasons and Yiayia’s Greek Sweets, were released as digital editions in 2022 and 2023. In January of 2024, both books were published in paperback and within a few days, were both ranked in the #1 and Top 10 spots on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” charts in their respective categories.

I live in Southeastern Massachusetts with my husband and our family, and I enjoy spending time outside, walking or biking around our quiet neighborhood, tending to our ever-expanding backyard garden, and sharing the kitchen with my kids. I’m passionate about supporting our local food systems, which means a lot of the food we buy comes from local farms and food artisans. If you’re into social media, I also document my life through food via Instagram, @ajoyinthekitchen, where you can find even more recipes and cooking tips, fun videos, snippets of my day-to-day life as a mom of two toddlers, information about my favorite farms and artisan producers, and mouthwatering photos of my signature cheese boards.
