DIY BluePrint Juice Cleanse

DIY BluePrint Juice Cleanse

This is going to be a long one folks, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that a couple weeks ago, Jon worked A LOT. Usually when he works 18 hour days and only comes home to sleep, he goes into survival mode and all bets are off as far as meals go. He eats whatever he can, whenever he can, and by that time he’s usually starving and reaching for foods that might taste delicious, but don’t necessarily make him feel great afterwards. I’m sure we can all relate, no? So, once his work week was over and he was finally able to catch up on some sleep, he decided that he wanted to do a cleanse to reset from all the garbage his body had been through all week long.

Now, I’m a team player and not one to let someone take on a challenge alone, so of course I instantly jumped on board and decided our best bet was to throw it back to a cleanse we’ve done (and enjoyed!) in the past, the BluePrint Juice Cleanse.

This cleanse consists of drinking five juices and one cashew milk per day, along with copious amounts of water and herbal or green tea. We didn’t want to go into full-on juice mode and waste all that valuable fiber, so we decided to "smoothify" the BluePrint juices using our Vitamix instead of a juicer, which allowed us to fill our bodies with fresh, whole forms of produce every day. We originally planned to do seven days, but later decided to do five days so we could enjoy the weekend and go out to dinner with our friends. Life’s all about balance, people!

You drink the smoothies in this order: Green, Pineapple, Green, Spicy Lemonade, Beet, and finally your nightly dessert, Cashew. Ideally you should space the smoothies out every two hours, drinking water or tea in between. You can also snack on some cucumbers, celery sticks, carrots, or a few raw cashews or raw pumpkin seeds if you just feel like you’ve got to chew something.

We got into a solid routine of making our smoothies every night after work, so that everything was ready to go the following morning. We would just pack up our smoothie jars (we bought a 12-pack of 16-ounce Mason Jars from Christmas Tree Shops, and just washed them out nightly to refill as the smoothies were being made) and we were out the door. When making the smoothies each night, I found that starting with the pineapple was the smartest way to go. This recipe always yielded a bit more than you could fit in the two jars, so I simply left it in the blender and added the green smoothie ingredients right on top of it! After that, a quick rinse of the blender, and we were on to the spicy lemonade, then the beet smoothie, and finally the cashew milk, rinsing in between each batch.

Let’s talk numbers for a second. If you were to buy seven days of the BluePrint Renovation Cleanse for two people, the bill would come to $975. We were able to buy all the organic produce we needed for seven days of our DIY smoothie cleanse for $150 at Trader Joe’s, and we STILL have stuff leftover in the fridge. Also, I know you’re probably wondering if we did this to lose weight. While weight-loss is definitely a nice side effect of any cleanse, we were motivated to simply reset our systems and feel better overall. That being said—Jon lost 10 pounds throughout the course of the week and I lost 8. Neither one of us are complaining.

The best part about the whole thing is that because you’re filling your body with high-quality, anti-inflammatory foods, you have more energy, less muscle soreness, and never ever feel bloated or bogged-down. You will have a minor headache for the first two or three days, simply because your body is withdrawing from all the “addictive” foods that many of us eat on a regular basis. Think dairy, sugar, caffeine, and processed foods.

Below are all the recipes for each smoothie, as well as a shopping list for two people to do seven full days of the cleanse. Keep in mind that these recipes can all be cut in half to serve one person instead of two! You will most likely have some produce leftover, which you should feel inspired to turn into salads or even more smoothies to carry you happily into the week following the cleanse. We're five days out from finishing and are both still drinking one or two of the green smoothies every day, as well as a pineapple or cashew here or there.
